PALIMPSEST FOR LINUX: GETTING STARTED (version 0.4.29, test version) ==================================================================== The file is "Palimpsest 0.4.29 for Linux.AppImage" (about 140 MB). It runs on most 64-bit Linux computers with an Intel or AMD processor (Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, Fedora and others). Nothing is installed: the file is the app. 1. Put the file somewhere you'll keep it, for example your home folder or an "Applications" folder. 2. Allow it to run (once): right-click the file, choose Properties, and turn on "Allow executing file as program" (the wording varies a little between Linux versions). Or in a terminal: chmod +x "Palimpsest 0.4.29 for Linux.AppImage" 3. Double-click it. Palimpsest opens. 4. The first time, Palimpsest asks you to start a new songbook or open one you already have. A new songbook is one folder, usually Documents/Songbook, with one plain text file per song. If it doesn't open: - If it says AppImages need FUSE (common on Ubuntu 22.04 and later), install it once in a terminal: Ubuntu 24.04 or later: sudo apt install libfuse2t64 Ubuntu 22.04, Mint 21: sudo apt install libfuse2 Or start it without FUSE: ./"Palimpsest 0.4.29 for Linux.AppImage" --appimage-extract-and-run - If nothing happens at all, start it from a terminal to see the message, and send it back to me: ./"Palimpsest 0.4.29 for Linux.AppImage" Splitting a recording into its parts (Studio): the first time, Palimpsest asks before downloading the splitting model (about 136 MB, once). To remove it: delete the AppImage file. Your songs stay in your songbook folder. If something looks wrong, a screenshot (the Print Screen key) and a sentence about what you were doing is the most useful thing to send back.
